Excellence, Dues, and Democracy
February is a brief month of just 28 days; in its honor, I will aim to keep this message short.
Teacher of the Year Nominees
Fourteen educators from Eden Prairie Schools have been nominated for the 2026 Minnesota Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to the following colleagues:
Marisol Alcazar Gerszewski
Jessica Brent
Alan Hergott
Lauren Koller
Sean Laughlin
Stacy Natal
Monica Nichols
Anna Nystrom
Katie Teslow
Jeff Thelen
Isabella Vermedahl
Maria Villavicencio
Lisa Warbritton
Erin Webster
We also continue to celebrate our own Linda Wallenberg, the 2025 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, and one of five finalists for the 2026 National Teacher of the Year.
These recognitions affirm what we already know; Eden Prairie is rich with remarkable educators. I am grateful to work alongside you, and our students are fortunate to learn from you each day.
The New State Paid Leave and Dues
Education Minnesota has adopted a policy of collecting regular dues from members who are on the new state paid leave program, just as it does for members on any other paid leave.
Because dues are typically deducted from paychecks, and members do not receive district paychecks while on state paid leave, the EPEA will need to collect dues through some other method. The two most likely options are writing a check to the EPEA or adjusting payroll deductions upon your return to cover the missed amount.
If you anticipate taking leave through the state program, please reach out to me as soon as possible so we can make a plan that works for you.
Election Season Starts Soon
It may feel early, but election season is already approaching. Planning for fall elections begins this spring, and we will need your help.
Please consider whether you might be interested in serving in a leadership role to support candidates who champion public education. We will be seeking a Get Out the Vote Lead, a couple of Campaign Coordinators, and Worksite Action Leaders at every location. More information will be coming soon.
Together. Onward. Forward.

President, Eden Prairie Education Association

One round-trip mileage reimbursement for each delegate in attendance.
